Gathered Showroom + Warehouse: The Grand Opening

At the very end of October we celebrated the grand opening of Gathered’s brand new showroom and warehouse. It was a celebration not only of the brick and mortar space (well… figuratively speaking! Let’s be real – it’s a steel building!!!), but a celebration of dreams coming true! A dream seven years in the making!

In the fall of 2011, Scott and I began to dream of bringing the world of vintage rentals
to the event industry in the Red River valley – and to dream of the incredible space we would need
to store and display all the beautiful loot we would collect.

And so we began! And collect we did! With the very first events being decorated with our own living room furniture, we began to store a few things in our back porch. Then I took over the entire basement of our house…. then the garage. Finally we got our first little storage unit. Then two. Then everything was moved to one BIG storage unit. Next, a tiny (and honestly, a little scary) “warehouse,” which we left joyously for our first beautiful showroom in downtown Fargo at the Sanctuary Event Center…. along with another storage unit.

And NOW! After a long journey of careful, step by step growth – we are so overwhelmingly happy to present to you the home we have created for ourselves at 2201 14th Ave. S, Moorhead!

Starting off – the “showroom” side:

The basket pendants are my absolute favorite feature of the entire space!

Richard Peterson provided sweet vibes – while Kayla of Indulgence Baking Co provided sweet treat!

…. was that too dorky? Ok.

And now, to the “warehouse” side – work space, packing/unpacking, loading/unloading, and home to the bulk of the collection!

This is my amazing mom! She’ll hate that I included a picture of her – but she never left the “kitchen” the entire night (and wouldn’t have liked it any other way), and I’m so thankful for her, my dad, and my in-laws!

Even Herbie the Photo Booth Camper made an appearance for the night!

FYI – furniture racks provide excellent hiding places for little boys!

I considered putting in a serious photo of Scott and I to wrap it all up – but this one fit us so much better!
And it also shows just how giddy we felt the entire night as well! Maybe it was the sleep deprivation….
but I’m going to call it pure and and simple happiness 🙂

I can’t say thank you enough to our families who bounced back and forth between helping us build and helping to care for our two little men at home, our incredible team who helped us move our entire showroom across town in two days (in the middle of wedding season!), to our amazing clients who gave us so much grace while we made our transition, and especially to Scott – who is my constant co-dreamer, endless supply of energy and enthusiasm, and can whip up stud walls and platforms with alarming speed!

We celebrated our grand opening with nearly 100 people through our doors! We are so incredibly grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support and joy we experienced that night! Thank you! Thank you for coming!! Thank you for all the notes and messages from those who wanted to come but couldn’t – we hope you will swing by soon to check it out!

HUGE props and thanks go out to Floret + Foliage for the gorgeous florals, Indulgence Baking Co. for the sweet treats, and FloraPine Photography for the beautiful photos! Working with people like you is one of the best parts of this job!

Here’s to the adventure! We can’t wait for another year of beautiful events to begin!

XOXO,
Carrie Sue

Gathered Lounges Part 2 | A Non-Traditional Holiday Lounge

Like me, did you wake up this morning ready for more melting snow and hopeful signs of spring arriving soon? Well, since life in the Red River Valley still has winter in its plan for us, even if we don’t – and honestly…. who is surprised??? – I thought I would simply embrace the snow day and feature a non-traditional, holiday-styled lounge for the second in our series on pre-styled lounge groupings!

Last holiday season, Ashley Ham of FloraPine Home approached me about styling a lounge a tablescape for the “Decorating for the Holidays” feature for her e-course, “Simplifying the Holidays.” I was thrilled, and loved the grouping we came up with so much that I decided to save it and offer it as one of our pre-styled lounges!

Like the Front Porch Lounge we featured in last week’s post, we start with the bare bones, the main pieces that set the stage, and then add accessories to really provide style, complete the color palette, and make things interesting and cozy. The details can be totally customized to fit your own style choices and event theme and colors. For that matter – you can even customize by swapping or adding any pieces you want! But if picking out the pieces is something you’d rather have done for you so you can move on to the rest of your event planning, then by all means, you can just take this as it is, with as many or as few of the accessories as you like.

Our goal for this lounge was to create non-traditional look for a winter gathering that still had all the feels and interesting details for our fashion-forward, earthy, boho, and hipster followers – which was right up Ashley’s alley for FloraPine Home, too! Like a hipster’s version of an up-north cabin retreat.

As I selected the pieces for this lounge, I wanted a nod to the goodness of Hygge style of simple, modern lines, cozy fabrics, layered patterns, and muted color palette. Basically, I wanted the whole thing to feel like cozy pair of wool socks. #truth.

To create this look, we gathered up some of my favorite mid-century pieces: the Dean Sofa and the Eugene + Luis Chairs. Then I added in a little bit of shinny bling with the Flanders Coffee Table and Gibson Side Table. Of course, we needed to include some cozy furs and animal hides. The monochromatic throw pillows support our muted color palette while the mixed patterns of the mudcloth still keep it interesting. And what Hygge-themed lounge would be complete without a stack of beautiful books??

I hope you have as much fun looking at this lounge as we did putting it together! And you’re already thinking ahead to next year’s office party or winter wedding, we would love to book this lovely lounge for you so you can call it done!

Kelsey + Zach’s Minnesota Lake Cabin Wedding

When Kelsey + Zach arrived at the Gathered Showroom for their initial design consultation, it was love at first meeting! I love working with couples as unique as Gathered, so I knew right away that this was a match made in design heaven. A wedding photographer herself (Kelsey Perkins Photography) and former display artist for Anthropology, an artfully designed wedding day with lots of intentional details really mattered to Kelsey. I could hardly stay in my seat, I was so excited to make art happen with this incredibly creative couple!

Kelsey and Zach’s vision was perfect – a small, intimate celebration at the neighboring family lake cabins where they’d spent their childhood summers falling in love with each other.

I would describe Kelsey’s style as artful, eclectic, earthy-bohemian, with a touch of European flair. A kindred spirit for sure!

Our goal was to create a comfortable, homey atmosphere where kids and dogs would feel welcome to run – a day that was true in every way to what being at the lake had always meant for their families.

It was pretty much agony to choose my favorite photos, so get a cup of something delicious, sit back, and enjoy this very photo-heavy post!

Our Preston Table welcomed guests as they arrived, grounded by our Bijan Rug and dressed with our Bernard Lantern, Finn Sheepskin Throw, Macrame Knotted Ropes, and a set of antlers. The icing on the cake is the stunning floral arrangement by Allison of Floret + Foliage!

The ceremony took place inside one of the family cabins – I couldn’t have dreamed up a cozier, more intimate setting for them! We accented and embellished the charm of the cabin with cafe lights, more knotted ropes with greenery, stacks of books, and candles everywhere!

Our Chandler candelabra made his debut for Kelsey + Zach’s big day!

One of the decor pieces we repeated throughout the design were authentic sugar molds used for candle holders. Framed for the ceremony centerpiece on the mantle with our Magdelyn Gold Frame, this 12-hole beauty was later moved down to the reception and added to the coffee table in the lounge along with the bride’s bouquet to be enjoyed all night long!

An eclectic mix of upholstered and wooden chairs and benches from our collection provided the perfect seating!

The reception took place outdoors, featuring a styled wine bar and lounge next to rows of our Jasper Harvest Tables. The long work bench in the old, storage shed was the perfect place for their dinner buffet, and the original, built-in cubbies in the adjoining room provided us with an ideal spot for displaying their favors – candles the couple made themselves – and desserts – homemade pies, of course!

Our Erie Shores Lanterns lead the way from the cabin to a small clearing where the guests would find their dinner and refreshments.

Wine was served at our Linus Bar while an array of local brews and specialty waters were available for guests in our vintage, European Baby Bathtub. Clear goblets from our collection of vintage glassware were beautifully arranged and displayed on our Mica Pipe Shelves.

One of my favorites of the European details we tucked in throughout the decor is the authentic, wire bottle caddy we used to display the four wine options the couple had selected to serve their guests. I found the caddy several years ago in a little shop in southern France and carried it all the way home with me in my carry-on bag!

I honestly can’t get enough of Kelsey + Zach’s style! The lounge for their reception reflected the dark, boho earthiness Kelsey and I both love so much with layered textiles and patterns, rich colors, woven fibers and natural elements like wood, leather, furs, and wool.

Gathered pieces we used for this look: Clint Sofa, Peaches Armchair, Carter Butterfly Chairs, Farmhouse Coffee Table, Anton End Tables, Nesting Teak Side Tables, Amos Sewing Table, Macrame Runner, Kianna Rug, Weston Rug, and an assortment of mudcloth and sheepskin pillows with authentic, european, wicker-covered demijohns.

Cooking and baking wholesome, quality food today is a big part of Kelsey + Zach’s life and something they wanted to represent in their table decor. So beautiful silver bowls overflowing with fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and little olive oil bottles with sprigs of rosemary brought the deep, rich color and homey fragrance we needed to the tables instead of more traditional floral arrangements. To these we added more sugar molds, silver candelabras, and a variety of clear glass and wicker-covered demijohns, with a simple line of ruscus greens. Gold silverware, espresso napkins and brown tapered candles were paired with our collection of gold-rimmed plates and a mix of lavender, blush, amethyst, and ruby goblets.

Our collection of eclectic wooden chairs provided the seating around our Jasper tables.

Layered rugs made a great boho setup to help set the tone for guests to dance under pine trees and the stars.

Thank you, Kelsey and Zach, for letting me be part of this special day with you!

URBAN INDUSTRIAL STYLED SHOOT

When Ashley Ham of FloraPine Photography asked if I would be interested in working together on spring styled shoot that wasn’t the typical “spring-y” look – I knew right away that I was in!

We wanted an urban feel with a touch of industrial – soft, but not too soft – so we chose a place where we could incorporate elements like brick, ceramics, and stone, steel and raw wood. The soft, almost neutral palette with that punch of emerald green speaks to the first creepings of spring and new life. The hardness of winter is hard to break through, but even the softest of flowers find their way and flourish.

Scroll down for all the early-spring goodness!
